I was always interested in the family aspect of that, the character aspect of that. It was a look at the internal pressures rather than the external.

There are some hopeful signs. It's just not a given that it's going to be the way that it was.

People relate to this whole larger issue, that this whole way of life is in trouble now. Obviously these issues are happening in small towns all over, including Vermont.

We're similar in the dynamics of our character, our cultural roots, our focus on family and our personalities. We both love to laugh. We make jokes all the time. We both work very, very hard, but we love and maintain an atmosphere of fun.

‘All in the Family.' I loved watching Carroll O'Connor play this despicable character and make him so hysterically flawed and charmingly vulnerable to where he could get away with saying so many off-color things and yet it endeared him to you.
