I was very lucky. When the board brought me in as an interim, they were very specific. They said they didn't want to lose momentum and they wanted me to go ahead and act as if I were permanent. They were very generous in encouraging me to face up to the problems.

It really breaks your heart to see young people lose an opportunity like that, particularly when they've worked hard to prepare. Ultimately, I think high standards in terms of student conduct are critical. I think the students will learn a lifetime lesson that will be a benefit to them all their life out of this. If they learn from the incident, it will ultimately serve a good purpose.

The top priority of course will be to put a budget together this year that ensures quality but lives within the limited tuition guidelines that we've got.

This marks a new day for the university.

This is really the first time I've seen all five of us together.

The privilege of being at the university for four years is something I'll always treasure.
