I'm not interested in gigs unless I really want to do them. I walked away from music in 1997, and then there was a greatest hits in 2002. Thank God, it didn't do too well because the record company wouldn't promote it.

Every album is just a greatest hits of whatever songs are on a pile when I go in to make a record.

If the record company won't let you put a record out, then you've nothing to promote, and they're not going to help you out with the tour budget if you've nothing to promote. So basically we were kind of trapped. And all the songs we would have written would have been owned by Mercury until they released us. So what do you do? It's kind of like a prison sentence. You are at their beck and call a little.

We didn't just want to go out and do that whole greatest hits thing.
