If you build up the soil with organic material, the plants will do just fine.

Our most important job as vegetable gardeners is to feed and sustain soil life, often called the soil food web, beginning with the microbes. If we do this, our plants will thrive, we’ll grow nutritious, healthy food, and our soil conditions will get better each year. This is what is meant by the adage ”Feed the soil not the plants.

Healthy soil leads to healthy plants.

If one or two of the plants end up not making it, or if there's a default on the loan, I don't think there'll be any others.

It is best to include plants that will survive the wet and dry of the area. I would recommend natives.

It will be a less vigorous bush. The damage will set the plants back two or three weeks. We won't know the percentage of loss for awhile.
