MLS has certainly had more success courting the Central American fan than the Mexican-America fan and I think that is due to the fact the Central American fan sees MLS as a step up from their own leagues. Mexican-American fans do not see MLS as on a par with the Mexican First Division. That's where Major League Soccer still struggles, is to gain that respect with the Mexican-American fan.

They reach into a constituency that is important for the overall success of a progressive movement in America. It's only a part of that movement -- it's middle class and more educated -- but it plays a very important role. The club challenges those people to turn their values into political action and community action.
