If you take a galaxy and try to make it bigger, it becomes a cluster of galaxies, not a galaxy. If you try to make it smaller than that, it seems to blow itself apart.

I have a saying: I try to make the world smaller by making the party bigger.

We know less about the structure of our own galaxy than we do about many nearby galaxies like Andromeda. We literally can't see the forest for the trees because we are embedded inside our own galaxy, and interstellar dust blocks our view.
