In Japan, we prefer modesty. It is our tradition and I think it will exist forever. Americans prefer confidence. Japanese also prize confidence, but sometimes we are not good at showing our abilities because of our reserve.

I've been surprised to know that people in the U.S. often mix up Japan and China. It is sad to us, because Japan is a different country from China. It is not right to assume that Asian people are all from China. Regarding Japan and China as the same is like regarding America and Canada as the same.

I think the United States should leave Iraq and deal with environmental problems. If the U.S. Army stays in Iraq, Japan will also follow it because the U.S. is an important partner of trade to Japan. American people also need to know they have to save energy. The U.S. was the only country that did not sign the Kyoto Protocol, which was selfish.

You put the ball in the net, it gives everybody confidence. We're creating opportunities, no question.

A great man is always willing to be little.

We would like to see these phased in in 2006. The discussion will be focused on that timetable.
