In light of the fact that we have a fairly permissive society, why are we singling out (polygamy) for criminalization?

Why criminalize the behavior? We don't criminalize adultery.

If there are problems such as child abuse, or spousal abuse, there are other criminal provisions or other laws dealing with those problems that certainly should be enforced.

It's long been accepted as fact that the availability of family planning services saves lives. Where women have access to these services, children and families are healthier, and society at large benefits.
