In my home State of Minnesota, I have seen firsthand the importance of Byrne grants to local police in reducing crime and drugs and improving public safety.

Is it always in the interest of the public safety to seek the prosecutor's traditional solution -- the harshest penalty possible? Or is the public best served by finding ways to change a kid's lot in life for the better, even if that means opening the prison door?

Public trust is essential to public safety.

We can only have true public safety with public trust.

What we all want is public safety. We don't want rhetoric that's framed through ideology.

Government's first duty and highest obligation is public safety.
