In that class I'm good for something. I'm good for the environment. I stress the urgency of the situation. Students ask what they can do. I don't have the answer, but studying the problem is the first step.

Last year, I went to the UCLA-Illinois game and didn't like the environment. It was quiet. The students weren't into it. There was no enthusiasm, no atmosphere. But I went to the Ohio State-Iowa game. What a difference. It was a great atmosphere. Iowa City was crazy.

What kind of citizens are we creating if we bring students up in an environment of constant surveillance? Schoolchildren for hundreds of years have done fine walking down the hall under the watchful eyes of teachers. There are so many educational demands and unmet needs, so you have to wonder if this is really the best use of limited resources.

Students seem to be very in favor of the green fee. The environment is something that's important to everyone.
