In the '80s and early '90s, they were basically musicals. Now, they're comedies. Will there be other paradigms? Yes.

It is almost the opposite of what people think. Organizations tend not to be on the cutting edge.

Mathematically, it starts getting difficult with budgets beyond $100 million to recoup money on a movie with major first-dollar gross participants. First-dollar gross is fine if a movie is successful, but if it's not, participants will continue earning fees which only pushes the studio into further losses.
