It is extremely important for the government to take urgent measures to instruct its armed forces to cease acts of violence against civilians and the LTTE.

Yet, we are encouraged by the fact the U.S. government is seriously concerned about the establishment of peace and stability in the island and had appealed to both parties in conflict to observe the terms of the accord.

We are deeply pleased that the government has agreed to the smooth implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

The government has agreed to implement a clause in the agreement in relation to the paramilitary groups. This is a good sign.
