It was 8:30 a.m. and I was still asleep when the hospital at UC Davis called. They had a liver for me and I needed to be in Sacramento by 4 p.m. We just grabbed stuff and ran — I don't even remember much of the trip, except that my phone was ringing off the hook.

I go back for a checkup on Monday and to get the last of the staples out. I'm so ready for them to be gone.

I don't know who the man was; just that he was on life support. I want to be able to meet his family and thank them.

I hit it real high. I knew it was pretty much gone.

It was a pretty good weekend.
