It was hostile there. There was no authority, no police. People kept saying, 'Food is coming. Water is coming.' But when the authorities pulled up, all they pulled out was their guns.

But when we got there, they told me that they were only taking people who came in (government-sponsored) buses.

I have had threats, people saying they were going to get me. The police have told me to alter my routine, not to frequent certain pubs and clubs. There's a playground-bully mentality that I have lived with.

We're not the food police ... but we want people who are on a special diet to be able to go into a restaurant where they can find something they can eat.

As a police officer, we have statewide authority and of course that gives her the authority to carry her weapon and take law enforcement action in the community off-duty if she feels it's necessary.

The police uniform and the firearm we carry are symbols of our legal authority,
