It's amazing to say, and this is not an exaggeration, that Bob Rubin has more influence today on Capitol Hill than the current Treasury Secretary.

The majority of Republicans on [Capitol] Hill want him out. They feel he's undercut them [and] made comments that have been very undiplomatic.

I think Rumsfeld has lost some important allies on (Capitol) Hill and in the senior military. But I don't see how the president would find it in his political interest to get rid of Rumsfeld unless he also wants to change policy and use Rumsfeld as kind of a scapegoat or whipping boy or whatever. But there doesn't seem to be any evidence that the president wants to blame anybody or change his mind.

The mood on Capitol Hill is not a pleasant one, ... There's a divisiveness that I think we haven't seen in a long time and I worry about that. I like to think that I've been a moderating influence on that.

I caught the bug, ... I went down there and had a blast. Capitol Hill is a great place for a young person. I decided I wanted to go back after graduation.

There's a feeding frenzy for transparency and disclosure on Capitol Hill, and that's not a good way to start. You can't plead national security. The public has a right to know.
