It's extremely complicated. There's no one solution. It's a multitude of little solutions.

It's a brilliant idea. With a few exceptions, most kids (in high school) don't have direction in life and haven't developed a passion yet, except for video games and computers. Fire training is so hands-on and so physical that, for a lot of kids, it's an eye- opener. If they can start developing a passion at 14, 15 or 16 and if it's done right, you can really cause a lifelong love of the fire service.

It's extremely common to see people in their 20s moving to Orange County.

There's definitely a change in demographics, and it's affecting us. Historically, the fire departments have been made up of blue-collar.

The solution is to stay connected and not to feel so guilty and bad. Try not to get rundown when there are so many bib biologic shifts.

There is no quick solution. This is just hard work.
