It's important to us to be successful at our music. We're ambitious people and want people to hear our music. But all the accoutrements are not that appealing.

The more you play with people, the more chances you're willing to take. It's an organic thing, how the songs are born. We play something and everyone starts adding to it. It's an intuitive process.

A band asked me to go on tour when I was 22 and asked me to play drums, and I taught myself so I could go on this trip with these people. The drums found me; I didn't find them. When I started playing, I realized how appropriate an instrument it was for me.

I have been writing music for about three and a half years and was always encouraged by other people to continue and keep writing. I thought this class would be like validation. If I'm really meant to be a songwriter after this, I'll know.

It amazes me that there are people who have had their bikes stolen who don't even check with us.

I'm excited because it seems to have a lot of variety. There's something for younger people, something for us older folks and something for people in between.
