It's just one example of the increasing breakdown of any rules in the Congress.

Democratic and Republican commissioners got heavy pressure this week from members of Congress, and in response they chose to ignore the campaign finance laws.

To effectively address the scandals in Washington, which revolve around the multiple ways lobbyists use money to buy influence, Congress must reform the lobbying, campaign finance and ethics rules, and create new means for enforcing these rules.

Members of Congress get to play King or Queen for a day. Special interest groups get to spend large undisclosed amounts of money to benefit members critical to their interests. Citizens get the short end of the stick.

Since this is constitutional it does not impinge on the powers of Congress. Congress, however, must observe its own rules in the power of inquiry in aid of legislation while the rights of the witnesses should be respected.

The battle goes on. There's a very powerful case to establish that these ads were about defeating Sen. Feingold, not lobbying him.
