It's just pure science, no applied science. There's no practical application. It's just finding out something that wasn't known before.

My family and friends have been really supportive. There aren't very many women in science, so some think it's unusual. I don't think it's unusual.

I fell in love with chemistry because I thought it was cool. It's where the future is. I want to be on the cutting edge where I'm making a difference. I've always been interested in how the world works.

If there is no God, who pops up the next Kleenex?

We knew we were going to do it as soon as we returned. They stopped the game in Upper Lake to acknowledge it and we wanted to do it when we got here.

I hope that my achievements in life shall be these - that I will have fought for what was right and fair, that I will have risked for that which mattered, and that I will have given help to those who were in need, that I will have left the earth a better place for what I've done and who I've been.
