It's like watching a movie in someone's living room.

She wanted something cultural there instead of anther shop or restaurant.

There are some nights people don't want to leave. They're just so comfortable.

One of our clients was living alone after the loss of her spouse and was unable to drive because of health reasons. Once our volunteers started helping her with transportation and minor repairs to her home, she began to feel better and became more independent. Her health has improved and now she can drive short distances to the store and her church. This is only one example of the tremendous impact our volunteers make.

Four years ago, Mildred was 96 and still living in the Midwest. In her mid?80s, she gave up flying. In her early 90s, she gave up golf. If you remember, Nancy Drew was a great golfer and she even wins a tour with a broken hand.

Marriage takes work, but so does living alone. One of the things you have to work at is to have enough human resources and to plan ahead... be willing to take responsibility for making the arrangements and building the bridges. People will walk across the bridge to you, but they probably won't build the bridge, and once you accept that, then you can have a very full life.
