I've done everything that America has asked me to do. I've raised three children independently, without federal assistance, I paid for a home.

In order to get people back, you have to have something for them to come back to.

When will we get the help we need to come back home? It's a whole lot of people that's really hurting.

Children were vehicles for passing things along. These things could be kingdoms, rich wedding gifts, stories, grudges, blood feuds. Through children, alliances were forged; through children, wrongs were avenged. To have a child was to set loose a force in the world.

And I think that we in America need to understand that many schools need improvement, and particularly with respect to how they're serving minority children.

There are grandchildren everywhere. Children have needs all over this county. I know it becomes more important when it's your children . . .
