When we were looking for a weekend place, ... Shannon was working at Jacob's Pillow in the Berkshires, and I was tooling around. I called her all excited about getting a home up there. But she said: 'Yeah, but it's a three-hour drive. When do we have the time for a three-hour drive? With our one day off, we'll come up and we'll have to go home right away.'

We wanted to make it clean and simple, to get as much use out of the space as possible. The bathroom was really a mess. There was carpeting and wallpaper. We took out the tub and put in a walk-in shower. We put in tile, no carpet. We left the cedar on the ceiling, because we didn't want to lose the cabin feeling.

The fans are going to get quite a show. This is theater and this is living history, but it's also unscripted sports competition. It's not like a Civil War re-enactment. It's a real ballgame.

My hobby was the military. I had been reading military history, especially as it relates to the Civil War and World War II. When I came to Virginia to go to school, I realized I was surrounded by the Civil War. It became my first love as a hobby.
