Me and my stepfather were sitting in the truck, and this guy just walked up and started shooting. I thought maybe he was going to ask for directions or something. He just turned and walked into McDonald's.

I was sitting here on this blanket so, here's the truck - maybe 6 feet.

I was just walking down the street, ... and I saw my step-dad's truck sitting at the end of the road. I was excited. I ran up there and I was really relieved I found her.

It was just like he dropped off the Earth. I felt so sad. Here's this guy and he's in a pauper's grave.

It was automatic. We were always on the same wavelength even before we started shooting.

Until I started the Hardwood Cafe, I didn't realize just how many people come through our area. We're so centrally located. We get people going to Ironwood, Escanaba to Houghton and to Marquette. Many of them are out of Wisconsin or Illinois going to Canyon Falls or the Ottawa National Forest. Plus, this is a very busy traffic area for Canadians.
