Microsoft wants its operating system to be ubiquitous in all devices. It's a strategy they've been mapping out forever. Whatever the future is, that's where they'll be.

However, consumers are demanding a more secure, functional operating system. And Microsoft has developed Vista to respond to that demand, while respecting its legal responsibilities.

We were delighted to have worked with Microsoft on its electric solar system. Microsoft is effectively lowering operating costs, reducing purchases of expensive peak electricity, and improving the health and quality of life in California through its Silicon Valley Campus solar power program.

I appreciate all the devices the Windows people are coming up with, but the operating system... I just want to smash it.

It's a simple strategy. You take what you can't sell, you glue it into the operating system, and you raise the price of the operating system.

The question is, to what degree can Microsoft integrate what's on the operating system with the services it offers on the Web and avoid tripping over the antitrust issue? I think Microsoft is very sensitive to this.
