Most birds that die in incidents such as this one never reach the shore.

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.

Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain

over the prairies and the deep trees,

Though all these incidents are different, there is a startling similarity between them as all these birds died after humans tried to interfere with their natural habitat.

Those birds which peck at the shore of the pool have played and have departed. In a moment, in an instant, we too must depart.

These incidents are not as rare as one might think.

Everything has been going well so far, with very few incidents.
