Nobody seems to scratch the surface of why we want to keep the museum alive. It's keeping the spirit of all guys who don't make it home. We're helping to keep them alive.

I think it says something about the spirit of Kansas and of America that we can talk about the financial challenges facing our own farmers and at the same time ask for -- and get -- help for those even worse off, ... Only in America. Especially in Kansas.

It's more about conception and touch and spirit and soul than whether my hardware was in place.

For me, let's keep jazz as folk music. Let's not make jazz classical music. Let's keep it as street music, as people's everyday-life music. Let's see jazz musicians continue to use the materials, the tools, the spirit of the actual time that they're living in, as what they build their lives as musicians around.
