Not to oversimplify it, somebody once said a good rule of thumb in interpreting a character is to find the good in the bad people that you portray and the bad in the good.

Bad people doing bad things is not interesting. What I find interesting is good people doing bad things.

Good people can do bad things, make bad decisions. It doesn't make them bad people.

We feel safer when we can label someone and figure them out, but it’s hardly foolproof. ‘Good people’ are capable of bad behavior. ‘Bad people’ are capable of good behavior.
