One way or another, everyone's lost sight of why we're here.

As Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich dedicated much of his energy to improving the lives of the children of the District of Columbia. We are blessed that the Newt and Callisita Gingrich Foundation are continuing that work through this generous donation to Cornerstone,

One way or another, everyone's lost sight of why we're here. That's part of my angst with this whole birthday celebration.

Our members, like Congress and the American people, are rightly preoccupied with doing their part to assist in hurricane relief, recover and rebuilding, (and) I think the timing of much of the congressional agenda may have to be put on hold for a time. But as soon as Congress returns to its other legislative priorities, we would expect work to continue on Social Security reform.

Obviously, it is not a clear path for reform. That being said, I do think we've got some momentum.

I want you to begin keeping a calendar of who you see and when: the first day each year you see buttercups, the first day frogs start singing, the last day you see robins in the fall, the first day for grasshoppers. In short, I want you to pay attention.
