Organisms in the ocean provide over 40 percent of the oxygen we breathe, and they're the major sink for capturing all the carbon dioxide we constantly release into the atmosphere.

If we over-breathe we lose carbon dioxide. The tissues then become starved of oxygen and then our body's systems start to spasm -it's then that we run into all sorts of health problems.

Photosynthetic organisms in the sea yield most of the oxygen in the atmosphere, take up and store vast amounts of carbon dioxide, shape planetary chemistry, and hold the planet steady.

If we could cut carbon dioxide emissions by 80 percent over the next 20 years we could perhaps prevent this. If we continue burning fossil fuels as we are today in the very near future (the ice shelf) will slip in (the ocean).
