Our goal is to do better than last year, And to get people excited about recycling and, of course, to beat BYU.

In this country we are now recycling nearly 24 percent of our household waste -- roughly double what it was two years ago.

This is to get people to reuse the things that can be reused.

We are pleased to be part of this campaign as while people are good at recycling their green glass, we know that the recycling of brown and clear glass is less common and we need to make our residents more aware of this, and why it is important.

We felt that [recycling] was getting kind of a negative connotation and people were getting turned off, so part of Linda's idea was [the Recycling Rewards] program, which I think was a good one. Let's create a positive approach here. We do want people to recycle.

The biggest benefit (is)?that a competition allows people to ask questions about recycling without any hang-ups. They have a stake in it, they have ownership in it, so they are going to inform themselves about it.
