We have a potential of 200 horses going to a tribe, and they could get $20,000 to keep them on their land.

Every 10 years the management levels change. In 1960, the management levels were at 60,000 horses and burros. In the mid-1980s, they pushed to get it down to 36,000. Now, 15 to 20 years later, it's 23,000 to 29,000. What that will do is put these horses in jeopardy.

You cannot preserve this gene pool with such reductions. Each herd has a significant historical value.

The government still hasn't purchased the land yet for building permanent housing, even though the NGOs are ready to go with funding.

We?re lucky that the York Water District leases us about 6.5 acres of land up there. That?s how we were able to grow and expand, and they have recently added another seven acres to our 50-year lease with them ... We are hoping to build a small education center so that we can be more of a public facility.
