Our volunteers are the most incredible people in the world. They give freely of their time and energy. But we don't have enough volunteers to keep up with it.

We do a home visit for every dog and cat. We try to match lifestyles and needs. We have dogs that are high energy, low energy and no energy. We want to make sure the environment is the right fit.

The one thing they share is a love of animals.

We cry a lot. But as a group, we give each other tremendous support and try to stay positive. That's what enables us to keep going. It's a team effort.

When you see the connection take place, it's as if they are falling in love. The joy on people's faces, the happiness, it's almost tangible.

So she's given marginal resources, and she multiplies it, ... She begs and borrows and depends on a lot of volunteers. I think sometimes she feels like the Lone Ranger out there, and in a sense, maybe that's justified, but that doesn't mean she isn't appreciated.
