Our windshield was full of helicopter.

It's going to be a full slate at the Olympics. The 1,000 hasn't been my priority this year but it's an event I've used a lot to help me in the longer distances. I've had good 1,000 races all year and I love the event because it's nice and short. You can just hammer the whole thing.

Here we are flying around with guys shooting at us, and we didn't know if our wingman was OK, if they'd crashed, if they were alive -- couldn't get them on the radio,

We circled what seemed like an eternity trying to decide whether we should stay there, whether we should go someplace safe, ... Finally, my tail gunner, Master Sgt. Byron Allen, spotted our lead aircraft on the ground, their main rotor still turning, so they were probably all right.

It was a very, very lucky shot
