Over 25 percent of Townsend land is zoned as open space, so business cannot go there. We have a small percentage of commercially zoned land and another small part zoned industrial. We have to look at ways to work around that.

In many ways, this is an awesome land plan, ... But can we get to 200 acres of open space through land grants, or other ways?

The Quincy area is attractive to Microsoft for a number of reasons: space available, the land, the access to power, and the close proximity to our headquarters here, which is always good for us.

We need young farmers to buy land, enter the business and stay in our rural communities to raise their families. One of the most difficult challenges for beginning farmers is gaining access to adequate capital. As farming changes, we need to update the programs to meet the loan needs of those that are contemplating a farming career.

The state has no business speculating on our land. We could get a higher use, with better salaries.
