Picture books are the distillation of an idea, and you have to use just the right words. I love that, and I try to use a lot of action verbs.

I love words ... so I can be a sucker for eloquence. Sometimes I assume that there is substance behind the words. Sometimes I am right. And, sometimes I am wrong.

I listen to archival and historic recordings. I love watching singers. I learned a lot from watching videos.

You don't have to say I love you to say I love you.

Perhaps they were right in putting love into books, . . . Perhaps it could not live anywhere else.

I love the idea of rectitude.
