Publishing is tough. As a writer, if I'd murdered my family, that'd be a great gift, not to my family maybe, but definitely to my book. Oprah's defense (of Frey) just doesn't work. You can't say a memoir is 90% true. Which 90%? It's cheating.

I equate it with a really new take on 'All in the Family,' where you see our weaknesses, you see our prejudices, especially our fears, and through them, and through the hilarity of us trying to deal with them, you learn about yourself, hopefully. And let's face it, the only normal family is a dysfunctional one on some level.

I think illness is a family journey, no matter what the outcome. Everybody has to be allowed to process it and mourn and deal with it in their own way.

There's no hazing or anything like that. Coach Jones has created an atmosphere where we're a family. He's like the dad telling the older siblings not to pick on the young ones.

[The Family] said that if I left, at best I'd end up working at McDonald's, at worst I'd be a heroin addict and end up on the streets, ... But you know, that's what they set us up for. We received no education and were allowed few contacts on 'the outside.'
