Quilting has evolved. It's still evolving. It's gone from necessity into visual arts...

The quilting, or stitching, is what holds the three layers of the quilt sandwich together.

A quilt is like a sandwich. The top layer is the design layer. When people look at a quilt, they're responding to that design and color.

For me, it's color and design. There's the group aspect to it, too.

Call this an unfair generalization if you must, but old people are no good at everything.

It's not like an absolute necessity.
