Religion and morality are playing a greater role than they did 20 years ago.

Religion has been in and out of American politics for nearly our whole history. Right now the conservative religious message is more vocal.

Scholars may contribute their knowledge or insight to public debate on important issues. They may contribute it in a form that is understandable to a policymaker, or even to the public, consistently with their duty of rigorous intellectual honesty. Scholars should not feel constrained to publish only turgid prose in obscure journals. They should not leave the public debate to those who feel no scruples whatever to conform their claims to the evidence.

Bill made a point of getting to know those people better and help them realize he was fairly centrist. It wasn't that they lost and surrendered; he won them over.

The more there is a steady flow of government money, the more likely it is there will be more regulation.

Two decades later, his Court has dramatically shrunk both doctrines.
