Royal Oak seems to be a city of animal lovers. It's ingrained in this town.

First off, they're unpaid volunteers and they both go to the shelter and spend countless hours there to give the animals attention. It's a rare thing when you see someone who is so involved with animal care and they get along so well with people.

The shelter is doing well. We're entirely operated by the generosity of the community.

At the start of this season, we asked the kids if they wanted to swim as Royal Oak, or if they wanted to be known as the Ravens. They preferred to be Royal Oak for one more season.

Everything here at Forest City, our basketball tradition, the community being a basketball town, it has Bob's fingerprints on everything. We have a plaque outside the gym for him that recognized his 600th win. He built this program into what it is. I doubt he will ever be forgotten here.

It's a white oak, which is the same species as the original Carolina oak.
