Rumors of sneezing, kissing, tears, sweat, and saliva spreading AIDS caused people to panic.

Because of the lack of education on AIDS, discrimination, fear, panic, and lies surrounded me.

I couldn't do anything without my crew. They're the people that put in the blood, sweat, and tears ? and they do bleed sometimes and they do sweat a lot. Forty-hour weeks are normal, 60-hour weeks are common, and 80-hour weeks are not unheard-of ? we do three or four of those a season.

On December 17, 1984, I had surgery to remove two inches of my left lung due to pneumonia. After two hours of surgery the doctors told my mother I had AIDS.

I got caught kissing my dad's ex-girlfriend - at his wedding!
