SARS gave everyone … new respect for respiratory viruses.

The first big issue is 'if', because a lot of people are still talking 'if' - and that's a fundamental misperception.

We know from the testing that's been done so far that this is not influenza, we know this is not SARS, we know this is not avian influenza. There are many other viruses it could be ... and the Ontario Public Health lab is working very hard on identifying which one of those viruses it might be.

There are literally hundreds of viruses that can cause these types of outbreaks. It is still likely that we will not identify exactly which virus caused this outbreak.
