Sculpture is an art of the open air. Daylight, sunlight, is necessary to it, and for me, its best setting and complement is nature.

ARTIST / Paint clouds that really rain / And noisy, running streams, / Or birds that can take flight / And sing beyond your dreams, / Or sculpt a lovely nude / That wakes to your embrace . . . / If not, then praise the Artist / Who made the human race.

Which a single piece of marble does not itself contain
Within its excess, though only
A hand that obeys the intellect can discover it.
