Several factors are expected to come together Friday creating the potential for severe weather.

Any time you have a situation where you have grapefruit- sized hail with damaging winds, those are some severe storms.

There's still potential for severe weather. We're watching the flooding and monitoring that very closely because we're concerned about some low-lying areas here in town. But other than that, we've just got the heavy rainfall and then the winds gusting up to some 30 miles an hour.

If we're just experiencing some minor snow covering secondary roads, we'll switch several officers to our severe weather vehicles. The remainder will stay in their standard vehicles and handle service calls as usual.

We continue to have little rain and the vegetation is drier than usual, so the potential for more fires is increased.

When the weather was over 90 (degrees) for several days in a row, the bridge deck expands to the point that it can't operate. It's been stuck in the near-closed position. We've been called to cool it down. I won't miss that.
