Student athletes are role models for youth and the local community. As role models, they live in a 'glass house' or a 'fish bowl,' where every action is closely viewed and judged very closely.

The rationale was in order to take advantage of technology and provide greater flexibility for institutions to contact prospective student athletes. On the flip side of things, for the prospects' well-being, they can choose to respond or not.

The rationale for the change was that the student-athlete can choose to respond to text message or e-mail. What we've learned in recent months is that maybe the intent of the rule and the application of the rule are inconsistent.

Obviously, it's disturbing that any individual like that could be working with the youth of any community. We tried to do everything we could to prevent that.

The youth are returning here. The thirty-something group is on the community boards. They have to feel that there's some progress before they'll do that. The proof is that we've gotten younger as a community and that has just not been happening in North Dakota.

There are no community centers, no senior centers or youth centers. We have to serve all those purposes. We have become the community center, almost by default.
