[Sun] likes Linux in general because every Linux socket taken up is not an NT socket. Plus, they want to sell hardware, and they do not want to sell Intel.

SPARC is the number two platform for Linux, but it's a distant number two. Sun is doing whatever it can to get some [Linux business] on the SPARC platform, but I think it's pretty much an Intel story.

Not only do we want to reduce the fragmentation of Linux, but we also want to reduce the fragmentation of the standardization groups around Linux. So we're all trying to talk and find a way that we can all cooperate together and work towards one platform and one solution -- that's an ongoing effort.

The only place we still use HP-UX is where the application is not available under Linux. Our goal is to run anything we can on Linux.

This is really complex stuff. They are going to have to find a prime contractor that will work with all the other entities to chip in.

There is growing recognition in China that they have to make some changes ... though it has not yet publicly taken the form of saying the western economic model is not going to work for us.
