The connection to the homeland was deliberately broken by slavery.

I thought it offered a way to have a different connection with both staff and patients, and a way to help that wasn't in the standard doctor/patient mold.

It's rewarding being with these people, making a connection with them, and being able to take them out to the cemetery. It's just a real special time.
