The first week in June is the peak of the turkey hatch. You want avoid any mowing of standing cover from late April to the end of June.

When light and heat get to the soil (in early spring), you'll get some emergent vegetation. But don't mow everything off. Leave some cover up on field edges, ditches and stream banks.

This is mowing them down, three up, three down.
