The governor has been consistent in saying he's fine with same-sex marriage if the courts and the people rule, he will support it. The legislature is the people's body, and so hopefully he will sign it.

We now have the Senate of the largest state in the nation endorsing marriage equality. This undermines President Bush's claim that this effort is being undertaken by a few activist judges.

It will totally take away the argument that it is just 'activist judges' who are finding for marriage nondiscrimination. It's the people's representatives in the largest state in the nation doing this.

Today in California, love conquered fear, principle conquered politics and equality conquered injustice. For the first time in our nation's history, the people's elected representatives have taken a stand to protect all families and ensure equality for all.

The governor has said 'no' to our rights, and so our community needs to turn out and say 'no' to him. We're going to work very hard to make sure the community sends a message.

He heard from his base that this is a civil rights issue.
