The Great American Health Check is a key part of a nationwide Society campaign to change Americans' behavior to prevent or detect cancer early in an effort to improve survival.

We didn't know if we'd see the benefits in a trial of women at high risk. And in fact, it does hold out.

This year, for the first time, there was a drop in the reported number of actual cancer deaths in the U.S.. Although we are winning the 'war on cancer,' there is a remarkable opportunity to save hundreds of thousands of lives and to reduce suffering from this disease with lifestyle changes and an increased use of proven screening strategies.

It was a very difficult diet to follow.

Think about breast cancer. It can take seven years for breast cells to go from pre-cancerous to cancer, to a cancer that's palpable. So these results may simply be too early.

We need much more effective physician-patient communication to educate the public on screening and early detection and when to have the tests.
