The news comes at you just so quickly. It's incredible in this day and age. Given that tremendous rate of news, sometimes I think it's easy for us to lose touch with the broader picture — the pattern of change.

Today, in terms of news, we have a fractured picture . . . more of a niche. Whether it be in terms of the Web or talk radio or cable television, everybody has their particular site on the news dial instead of having that broader picture. In the last year, we've seen Jennings, Brokaw and Rather all go away — a tremendous rate of change.

Every day, we get concerned about the age of the school buses in this county. You've got to keep in mind that they're built as buses to start with, and they carry young people who may not treat them as if they were their very own, so to have these buses running 13 or 14 years ... is not the best way to do business.

The people we want in our news prime-time space now are strongly opinionated people who I think, for the most part, attract audiences of like-minded people, who want to know 'what's our side thinking right now?'

We prefer to stay home, to be alert and watch the news, not to be in the street and do rallies any more.

The media, the newspaper, the Hispanic news broadcasts and the radio stations, they make the difference, for sure.
